Impressive list of 100 OpenSource Applications for Ubuntu users

In my Delicious bookmarks inbox, I received a very interesting link today, pointing to an impressive list of 100 (!) OpenSource Applications for Ubuntu users.

Busy community days ahead (again :-)

The next months will, again, be busy Drupal-months...

We just finished the schedule for the Drupal Developers Room at the FOSDEM conference on February 7-8 in Brussels. That will be a busy weekend, since Batigolix is taking the lead in organizing a saturdaynight event too. What was originally planned to be a Drupal dinner is slowly evolving into Drupal Monks Abbey Beers social Event Fosdem 2009 Yep, that's the offical name! :-) in café Monk in Brussels.
And that's the day before the Drupal sessions :-)
Everything about the sessions, the schedule and a bio of all the speakers can be found in the wiki's we setup at http://groups.drupal.org/fosdem-2009

On March 4-7 the Krimson Krew (Nick, Jan, Bruno, Roel and I) will head over to Washington for DrupalCon 2009.
It will be our 3th Drupal conference in the US (after DrupalCon Sunnyvale at Yahoo's headquarters in 2007 and DrupalCon Boston last year). Krimson sponsored last years DrupalCon by inviting a promising Belgian/Dutch Drupal talent to join our team on the trip to the US. This year we choose a more conventional way to support DrupalCon by becoming a Bronze sponsor.

But first there is DrupalCamp auf Deutsch January 17-19 in Cologne, Germany. Both Roel and i will give a presentation on Saturday. I expected DrupalCamp Cologne to be a small gathering, but it looks like over 200 people are expected, and besides Roel and I, other people decided to cross international borders too.

Fosdem 2009 in Brussels: Call for speakers

Sunday February 8, 2009 the Drupal project has a developer room at FOSDEM (FOSDEM = Free and Open Source Developers' European Meeting; a yearly non-commercial and free event in Brussels (Belgium), with over 3000 attendees from all over Europe)

The FOSDEM group at drupal.org is used to organize this room.
We set up a carpooling and lodging wiki, and we did a call for presentations.

Currently we only have 7 presentation proposals. We should have at least 5 more before this Friday (that's the deadline!), so we have some presentations to chose from during the weekend :-)

If you want to direct Dries presentation into certain directions, you can add a comment on his blogpost.

How to force Mollom to mark your post as 'spam' ? (without ruining your reputation)

When theming a website that uses Mollom as an anti-spam tool, you need to give some extra attention to theming the captcha-form, so it shows up gracefully.

In order to show the captcha-form, Mollom needs to think your post is spam.
"So I need to post spam to my own site ? Is that the only way to get these captcha's showing up on my site ?"
Mollom Captcha at jwo.be
No. Posting spam, even when on your own site, it a bad idea: it ruins your reputation. For sure IRL, but soon it might also affect your reputation in the Mollom universe too. As soon as Mollom starts to actively implement some kind of openid-based scoring board, it might affect your user-score and mark your openid as a potential spammer.

The solution: put your site in 'developer mode' in Molloms site manager via edit subscription - edit site details.
Now you can force Mollom to tag you posts as 'spam', 'ham' or 'unsure' just by adding these words to the body of the post.

Easy!
And it will not affect your reputation in Mollom...

[Edit: there is a handbook page about this too: http://drupal.org/node/350424]

ZoomIt: online invoices in my online banking? No, not this way!

My bank has decided to 'invite' (read: force) all it's users to use a new free service, called ZoomIt (see http://zoomit.be only in Dutch or French - ZoomIt is a service provided by Isabel)

ZoomIt is a service that links my bank accounts (and the secure environment my online banking delivers) to companies I have a commercial relationship with. After enabling the service, these companies will no longer send invoices on paper, but will make them electronically available next to your bank account. The invoice will show up directly in your online bank, and paying the invoice has never been easier.

I will not use this new feature
